You entered my life in a casual way.
And saw at a glance what I needed,
There were others who passed me or met me each day,
But never a one of them heeded.
Perhaps you were thinking of other folks more,
Or chance simply seemed to decree it;
I know there were many such chances before,
But the others - well, they didn't see it.

You said just the things that I wished you would say.
And you made me believe that you meant it;
I held up my head in the old gallant way,
And resolved you should never repent it.
There are times when encouragement means such a lot,
And a word is enought to convey it;
There were others who could have, as easy as not -
But, just the same, they didn't say it.

Thank you for being a friend to me when needing someone there -
my failing hopes to bolster and my secret fears to share.
Thank you for being so good to me when it was hard to know -
the wisest course to follow, what to do and where to go.

Thank you for giving me confidence when I had lost my way -
speaking the words that led me through the tunnel of the day.
Thank you for all you did and said to ease the weight for me -
Never intruding, but there in the background, helping quietly.

Thank you not only for sympathy in times of grief and stress -
but for all you have meant to me in terms of happiness.
Many a good times we've know and many a laugh we've had -
Thank you for being the kind of friend that shared the good and the bad.

A faithful friend is a sturdy shelter;
he who finds one finds a treasure.
You Herb were that good friend
and the day I met you I knew I had found a great treasure.

Herb passed away on February 5, 2005
He will be much missed by his family and friends.
He was one heck of a carpenter and one great friend.

MAY HE REST IN PEACE.
